about

"When I was in High School, a bunch of my friends played in bands, but not me. One day, I was driving into town, listening to Suicide Machines cover of "I Don't Wanna Hear It" by Minor Threat and I just screamed the words as loud as I could. I thought to myself, "It seems like I can do this, It feels really good to sing like this." I never had the confidence to try and start a band or anything, but I always knew in the back of my mind that I could do it. When I moved to Victoria at 20, I joined a band right away and just pretended that my lack of experience wasn't a thing. I screamed at my first band practice like I did that day in the car, and it went over fine. Fake it till you make it, right? So to this day, I will never forget those words, or how I yelled them. You have to prove things to yourself before you can convince anyone else." -JL
